Pretty soon after we started e-cycled.com, we realised that there were others who were encouraging people to "ecycle". It turns out that "ecycled" can also mean a service that properly disposes of electronic waste for you. One such company in Australia is 1800 EWASTE. These guys will collect your electronic waste (computers, monitors, printers etc) from your home or office and organise for them to be recycled. Their website claims that 98% of the waste is diverted from landfill. How great is that?
We think that any way of reducing stuff being dumped in landfill is a good thing. We also think that the fact that computers and other electronic equipment is full of weird and wonderful metals, plastics, glass and possibly chemicals, it's best that this equipment is disposed of correctly, by professionals.
However, if you have upgraded your computer or you have a pile of out of date equipment in your home, e-cycled is the perfect option to get rid of the gear and know it is not going into landfill. You might have a broken computer lying around that would be great for someone who knows how to fix it or might need it for parts. Or you might just want to get rid of your old equipment to make way for the new stuff.
I certainly remember being a student with no money who would have been extremely grateful for an old computer to type out some essays.

Why blog? And a little about us.
e-cycled.com has been around for more than a year now. We now have regular visitors to the site and every day there are new listings for items to give away to new homes. We thought it would be great to have a place where we talk about why people should think about "e-cycling", interesting thoughts and tips for reducing the amount of gear in your life and also to get some feedback from the users of e-cycled.com.
About e-cycled.com
If you are interested in finding out a bit more about us, check out this page here.
We are two friends who started the site when Cameron needed to move homes and had a load of furniture that needed to be discarded quickly. Not wanting to put the stuff on the street (which is illegal), and not finding a suitable alternative that would allow him to get rid of the stuff as fast as he would like, e-cycled.com was born. It is a way to hook up people who want to get rid of things with people who can give these items a new lease on life.
In our opinion it has a host of benefits such as:
* Environment: Reducing the amount of usable "waste" that makes it to landfill, and therefore reducing your environmental footprint
* Declutter: It allows you to get rid of excess stuff in your house that you might be holding on to simply because you haven't known how to get rid of it.
* Save money: You can pick up some amazing things from e-cycled.com for FREE! Remember, what is someone else's trash might be your treasure.
We really hope that e-cycled.com and other services like it help people to view their old furniture, computers, whitegoods, clothes etc etc differently. That they may be junk to you but that doesn't mean they can't find a home elsewhere and be saved from landfill.
Happy e-cycling!
